The King of Detroit is the eighth and final episode of the first season of the Starz original crime drama BMF.[1] It aired on November 21, 2021.
Synopsis[]
In an effort to expand into new territory, Meech discovers a disturbing alliance then hatches a plan to eliminate the threat. Terry is forced to make a life-altering decision.
Plot[]
Kato meets up with Lamar, who is still bleeding from having been shot by Tiny. Kato informs Lamar that security will be light on Meech tomorrow when he goes to meet his new plug at the repair shop, but Lamar is slightly suspicious of Kato and warns her against crossing him.
As Lamar pulls off, B-Mickie follows behind him, but he is pulled over by the police before getting his chance to kill Lamar. After stashing his gun away in a hidden compartment, B-Mickie is forced to get out the car and placed in handcuffs.
Terry exits the classroom to find a break dancing session unfolding in the hallway. However, he is hardly able to enjoy the scene before being taken into custody by D.R.A.N.O officials.
Elsewhere, Meech is on the porch flirting with Lori when Detective Bryant and two other officers pull up and place him in handcuffs and order Lori inside the house.
The entire crew, with the exception of Kato, have all been arrested and placed in a cell, where Meech and Terry discuss Kato's suspicious absence. However, just as Terry begins to push towards Kato possibly having something to do with their troubles, she is brought into the station in handcuffs. Moving on to more pressing matters, when the hook rolled, they dumped all their weight on the ground, leaving their drugs vulnerable to be taken. And so, Meech makes a call to Roland, who heads over to the rec center, dressed in the official uniform of theDepartment of Public Works, and collects all the strategically hidden dope.
Commander Beckwith interrogates Meech and asks for the name of the person responsible for killing Detective Lopez. She recalls how Nicole lied to her when she was in the very same chair Meech is currently in. Darius' murder led to the crackdown on the 50 Boyz, which ultimately led to Lopez getting killed, meaning Nicole is directly involved in the murder of a cop. So, if Meech neglects to give her a name, the Commander will throw Nicole back in the hot seat and press charges against their mother.
Karen informs Charles and Lucille that she found the nurse who was witness to the malpractice. Nurse Alicia Green gave her deposition, in which she revealed to have smelled alcohol on the surgeon's breath during Terry's second surgery. When Karen went to the hospital with the threat of going public, they offered a $230,000 settlement, which the Flenorys accept. Charles also apologizes to Karen for what he said to her and thanks her for all the help.
Ecorse PD is unable to hold the 50 Boyz any longer and are forced to release them. However, Commander Beckwith intends to maintain the pressure and keep the area on lockdown until one of them comes forward. And with Beckwith unsure exactly whose side Bryant is on, she's keeping him on desk duty.
Meech tells Kato to come with him and asks her what she told the police when questioned. Kato insists that she didn't tell them anything, though it was hard for her looking at the photos of the cop she killed. Meech assures her she did the right thing and asks Kato how she got into the game. Kato and her mom used to get into it all the time, to where she ended up moving from Tennessee to stay with her pop's when she was 13 years old. He used to hustle everything and she'd chill with him and his crew. Meech reveals that he and his best friend Roly used to drive to the Eastside to check out Maserati Rick and his crew at the car wash to peep game. Kato's pop's used to always talk about that spot, revealing that his name was Clifford Forday, who everyone used to call him C-Luv and ran with the BK, aka the Black Killers. Meech then gets word of Lamar's location.
Lamar has sought out Alvin, a local coroner, to tend to his gunshot wound. While he manages to stitch Lamar's arm, he doesn't have any pain medication. Before leaving, Lamar asks for the keys to Alvin's hearse.
Meech and the crew barge into the mortuary in search of Lamar, just as Alvin is about to have sex with one of the female corpses. Alvin claims to not know Lamar, but Meech threatens to kill him should he find out that Alvin is lying.
Charles informs Lucille that he's been looking into starting a car service, but Lucille reminds Charles that the settlement money belongs to Terry, which Charles argue he doesn't deserve, but Lucille stands strong in her conviction.
The crew meet back up at the record shop, where Sockie shares a name for the crew he came up with: the Mafia Family. However, Meech reminds him that they're black, not Italian. Terry and B-Mickie then enter the shop, and they discuss their next move, as they only have two days left before they have to re-up. B-Mickie has been scouting the Eastside, but there's a local crew who runs the area, which Meech claims he can handle.
Karen hands Terry his settlement check, but the money will be held in a trust until he turns 18, and he can't spend it any sooner unless they get permission from a judge. Both Terry and Charles are upset, but Lucille is a bit more understanding and thanks Karen.
The crew have made their way to the Eastside, where they wait for the local crew to confront them, led by a guy named Saint, who threatens Kato and Dink until Meech and B-Mickie arrive with a proposition for Saint's boss on some dope that is not only purer but costs less as well.
Meech and Terry meet with Saint's boss, who ends up being Boom. After losing a great deal of money at the gambling table, Boom pulls Meech to the side, who reveals that he and Tee walked away from Pat and are trying to bring him more business. However, Boom laughs at the notion that Meech could help him and turns him down. Meech then asks if Boom ever heard of an old head named C-Luv, which he has, but C-Luv wasn't BK. He was with the Delray Boyz, Lamar's old crew, Boom confirms.
Kato stops by B-Mickie's. She admits that she was nervous when Meech asked her to come with him, suspicious that B-Mickie sold her out, but he insists he would never do that. As for Lamar, they missed their shot yesterday, and Kato doesn't want to set up another meeting with him. So, B-Mickie suggests using the shot they already have. Kato told Lamar that Meech was meeting with the plug tonight, and B-Mick will show up to the meet instead.
Charles takes Terry and Lucille to see Jay Freedman's car service business, which he is selling. He makes about 125K annually. Charles wants this business to be Terry, which he could eventually pass down to his son. This could be Terry's way out, but Terry isn't sure if this is what he wants just yet and asks for time to think about it.
Meech heads over to Duke's garage, where he has just finished putting in Meech's new speaker and stash spot. Before long, B-Mickie arrives and Meech asks him what he thinks of Kato and if he trusts her with their lives. B-Mickie initally claims that she's loyal but then reveals to Meech that Kato has been working with Lamar, which Meech is already aware of and was simply testing B-Mickie's loyalty. B-Mickie reveals that Kato came to him with plans to double-cross Lamar and kill him at the repair ship on High Street.
Meech neglects to tell Terry about Kato working with Lamar and then reveals the new crew name: Black Mafia Family. It represents everything they're about. Meech also reveals that he made a deal with Saint and promised him five keys of his own, which is all their work. This why Meech he wants Terry to asks Big L for more weight. When Terry refuses, Meech convinces Terry to allow him to come for their next re-up so that he can ask her himself.
Lamar sneaks around the repair shop, where he discovers that Kato was indeed trying to set him up and goes back to the bar to confront her. With his gun pressed against her, he leads Kato out the bar, where he is confronted by Meech and B-Mickie. Lamar holds a gun to Kati's head, but that doesn't stop Meech from opening fire and shooting Lamar in the stomach. As he lies on the ground bleeding, B-Mickie chases after Kato and holds her at gunpoint. Kato tells B-Mickie that she loves him, but he pulls the trigger, shooting her once in the chest and again in the head.
Meech and B-Mickie head back to his parents' house for drinks, where B-Mickie, despite killing her himself, is mourning Kato's death, which he partially blames Meech for, as Kato was the first girl that he loved. Lucille comes down and insists that B-Mickie is too drunk to drive and that he should sleep it off on the couch. Lucille noticed that the guards are no longer outside of the house and asks Meech what has he done. Meech explains that he was simply protecting the family and that who he's become isn't her fault. However, Lucille doesn't even recognize Meech anymore.
Terry reluctantly brings Meech along for his re-up with Big L, who explains that their business is expanding and that they need more product, ten keys to be exact. However, Big L draws her gun and demands that Meech exit her gallery and warns Terry that she'll kill both him and Meech if he ever disrespects her like that again. As for the ten keys, Big L grants Terry's request, informing him that their partnership has no limit provided that he continue to value the terms of their agreement.
B-Mickie continues to mourn Kato's death, reminiscing about their time together, when he is pulled over by Detective Bryant, who places him under arrest.
Meech and Terry reconvene after the re-up, and Terry hands Meech the ten keys. Meech is ready to celebrate, but Terry is concerned with the heat Lamar's death will bring.
Terry sits Charles and Lucille down to talk about everything that's been going on, but that halts when LaWanda reveals that she and Terry Jr. are going to live with her cousin in Pennsylvania for a few months. She gave Terry the opportunity to make a choice, but she didn't think it would take as long, so now she's leaving. Terry attempts to prevent her from leaving with his son, but Charles interferes and helps LaWanda outside.
B-Mickie is placed in an interrogation room, where Detective Bryant has recovered B-Mick's gun, the same weapon used in both Jay Mo and Kato's murder. However, Bryant is willing to make B-Mickie a deal. The gun could disappear, so long as B-Mickie is willing to flip on Meech.
Terry has canceled the meeting, but meets with Meech nonetheless, who hands Terry a brand new BMF chain. However, Terry reveals that he's out of the game and that he's going to use his settlement money to invest in the family business, which Meech initially takes as a joke, but he tells Meech that he's tired of all the consequences that come with the streets. Still, Meech isn't convinced that a quiet family life is truly what Terry wants, reminding his brother that they're hustlers and that it's in their blood, but that doesn't stop Terry from giving Meech his BMF chain back.
Flash forward to older Meech in a prison cell, writing in his journal about how he now realizes that he was demanding blind loyalty from Tee and not carrying what he actually wanted. When Tee walked away from the game, it should've given Meech pause, but it didn't, as he had his eyes set on being King of Detroit.
