On her way home, she is confronted by Meech, who previously told her never to go there. Much like Meech, Nicole is angry for her own reasons, not caring much for what he has to say and even opening the car door to escape as he's driving down the road, nearly causing them to crash. Nicole demands that he let her out and exclaims that she hates him. So, Meech pulls over, and Nicole reveals that sometimes she's feels invisible and overshadowed by Meech and his drug dealing. She's constantly having to lie to their parents for them, and on top of everything else, she likely won't even be able to go on her field trip. Meech admits that the house has prioritized him over everyone else, but he insists that he loves her and that he'll always be there for her, then handing her a stack of cash.[2]

Nicole is questioned

After being taken to the hospital, where she reveals to Meech and Terry that Darius was killed by Lamar, for which she blames them, Nicole is taken down to the Ecorse Police Department for questioning. But first, she shares with her parents that the attack had something to do with Meech and Terry's business. Her father tells her to tell the truth no matter what, but her mother worries that people might come after them if Nicole says too much. Commander Beckwith asks why Darius was stabbed. Nicole claims that she doesn't know his motive, but the Commander suspects that Nicole is lying. Detective Lopez suspects this has something to do with Meech and Terry, who kidnapped a rival gang member's daughter. However, Nicole maintains that she knows nothing.

Nicole and her family return home after Darius' funeral. With LaWanda in the bathroom, Nicole volunteers to hold baby Terry but then begins to cry. Terry takes a seat next to her and admits that it is indeed his fault that Darius is dead, apologizing to Nicole, but she doesn't blame Terry and tells him that she loves him.[5]
