Biography[]
Forming DRANO[]
Commander Mars, from Michigan State Police, introduces herself to Detectives Bryant and Lopez as their new division head. Everyone one of their drug cases goes through her now, including the Flenory file. Commander Mars explains that the state police have initiated the Downriver Area Narcotics Operation, otherwise known as DRANO. Ecorse PD will be joining heR to ID and dismantle local drug organizations. For the next 18 months, they will have more authority, reach, and respect than they ever dreamed off.[1]
Commander Mars leads a briefing to discuss the war between the 50 Boyz and 12th Street Boys. Jay Mo is still missing, as is Filmel, whose aunt claims moved to North Carolina. Commander Mars suspects that with the first and second in command missing, someone is making a power play within 12th Street. Lopez suspects that Jay Mo was killed by Meech, but Bryant argues that he could simply be off on a binder with his girl. With Lamar Silas taking over 12th Street and having been seen leaving Downriver Memorial Hospital the night of Filmel's discharge, Commander Mars instructs Bryant and Lopez to investigate both scenarios, but their primary objective is finding Jay Mo and Filmel.[2]
Commander Mars watches from the observation room as Detectives Bryant and Lopez interview a witness who claims he saw someone put Jay Mo into the back of a car.[3]
Darius Grill's murder[]
Following the near abduction of Nicole and murder of her friend Darius, which they suspect to be retaliation from Lamar, Commander Mars and Detective Lopez bring her in for questioning. The Commander asks why Darius was stabbed. Nicole claims that she doesn't know his motive, but the Mars suspects that Nicole is lying, as they have a witness claiming that Lamar was trying to get to Nicole and that he stabbed Darius when he attempted to interfere. However, Nicole maintains that she knows nothing.
After Lopez is killed in the line of duty, Commander Mars tells Bryant that he needs to head back to the station for a debrief and informs him that Lopez discovered he has some type of relationship with Meech. The Commander threatens to wash him out to dry should she discovers that Bryant is dirty.[4]
Investigating Lopez' death[]
Commander Mars interrogates Meech and asks for the name of the person responsible for killing Detective Lopez. She recalls how Nicole lied to her when she was in the very same chair Meech is currently in. Darius' murder led to the crackdown on his crew, which ultimately led to Lopez getting killed, meaning Nicole is directly involved in the murder of a cop. So, if Meech neglects to give her a name, the Commander will throw Nicole back in the hot seat and press charges against their mother. However, Meech insists that he doesn't know anything, and without any solid evidence, she is forced to release him and his crew. Still, Commander Mars intends to maintain the pressure and keep the area on lockdown until one of them comes forward. And with Mars unsure exactly whose side Bryant is on, she's keeping him on desk duty.[5]
